MISS GERTIE CAMPION: An APPEAL.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —May I trespass very shortly on your kindness to make an appeal to Miss Gertie Campion's many friends in Auckland and in this province generally? Miss Campion is now, and has been for some little time, in the Government sanatorium at Cambridge, where she has been making steady progress towards recovery from her prolonged and terrible illness, and everything points to a complete recovery if she can only remain there, at least till the end of the year; but unfortunately her funds are exhausted, and at the' moment she is practically penniless. The authorities. I understand, have very generously made special concessions in the charges for her maintenance at the institution, but she is no longer able to pay even these. Miss Campion has been profoundly touched by the kindness of the people of New Zealand in the past, and can never sufficiently express her gratitude. In the contributions which were sent to her in South Africa Miss Campion's friends in Auckland did not have an opportunity of contributing, and, therefore, I venture now to make an appeal on her behalf. I shall be glad if you will receive subscriptions at your office for this object, and any contributions sant to mc direct will be gratefully acknowledged. Mr. Bert Royle, who administered the former contributions, has kindly consented to take charge of the present fuiwi and see to its proper administration.—l am, etc., J. F. MONTAGUE. P.O. Box 246.
