There was a good deal of adverse comment in Lyttelton yesterday on the fact that coaling operations on H-M.s. Encounter were carried on till 9.30 on Sunday morning. The s.s. Hawea arrived from Westport early on Saturday morning, and began coating the warship at- six o'clock. Work was continuous for 27 hours, 651 tons of coal beingtransferred. The Encounter was to have sailed on Friday, but the Hawea was detained by bad weather. The general opinion is that there was no need for such a hurrying rush of the operations.
