The financiers' believe j that the consols ultimately would Command a higher.:, price? than State stock, conversion on terms ./ fayqurableto the Commonwealth being possible later: • A • favourabley opportunity, forestabUshing the -consols would be when: a considerable amount of State stock is maturing. Sir John Forrest considers, that the Commonwealth should as soon as possible take, oyer the State debts, and "he is confident that the. conversion into consols . would-. secure ' a, . considerable saving in interest.
