THE PACIFIC CABLE.

? f" SEELIdNGTON, this day. j The viators to Wellington just now include Mr. C. H. Reynolds, general manager-of the Paeifie-Cable ' Reynolds states that after finishing his business with the Nesy Zealand Government, ■he will return to Melbourne to obtain the necessary orders for proceeding with the work of active competition .with the Easter Extension Company in Sydney and Melbourne. He is not aware .that any. question of a war of rates is likely to arise. Should it do so, his Board will, of course, be consulted aa to what action should be taken. Mr. Reynolds says the cable stations are in admirable order; the service is d>eing maintained very efficiently, and traffic is steadily improving, in fact, the traffic for March was the highest yet recorded, and with increasing facilities in Australia it is hoped that a very material increase will take place. As regards New Zealand the Pacific Cable has already a very large share of the traffic? ihere is therefore not much scope for a big advance. Mr. Reynolds leaves for Sydney on Saturday, and after completing his business in Australia, he will Return to Auckland towards the end of June, and then make an inspection of the Fiji, Farming-Island, and sTanconver stations. > ■- /
