AN ENGINE DERAILED.
400 PASSENGEBS BADLY
FRIGHTENED.

EEATAHUNA, Monday. The mail train which, arrived from Wellington at one pjn. to-day was partly derailed when "coming into the station at Ekatahuna. The front engine left the main line and got on a side track, the points having been left unlocked. It then went off the line, but a. truck between the first engine and £he. second engine remained on -the line. Two passenger cars -which followed were derailed, and the train travelled 50 yards before it was brought to a standstill. There were about 400 passengers on fche train, and they received a great -fright. The train was behind- time, and was running into the station at 12 -miles an* hour. The engines appear to be undamaged. One engine took the train on, and the other was got back on to the line this, morning. The permanent way is but little injured. All trains'are running three hours late. The porter has been suspended. An inquiry will be held.
