QUEEN-STREET WHARF.
FERRO-CONCRETE CO. "TENDER ACCEPTED.
The sub-committee of the Harbour Board recommended that the tender of accepted" for the- construction of the. first portion; oi. Queen-street Wharf,. the price being £ 82,296 12/. The chairman in moving the adoption of the report'of the subcommittee, explained that careful examination of the plans and specifications had shown that the JFerro-Conerete's structure was much stronger than any' of the other local ones, while the tender from Sydney was for a much hjgher figure and for a much stronger structure than that required by the Board. The committee had therefore no hesitation in recommending the acceptance of. the Ferro-Concrete Co.'s tender, and considered that the Board were to "be congratulated in having delayed the matter and thus saved £ 7000. Mr . Hutchison seconded the motion for the adoption of the sub-committee's report, and this was agreed to without discussion. The following are the tenders and estimate:— £ s. d. Engineer's estimate 81,500 0 0 GummoAv and Forrest (Sydney) 118,331 5 0 McLean and Sons 84,487 0 8 Ferro-Concrete. Co. (accepted) 82,296 12 0 Newsom and Coulson.... 70,744 2 0 The report of the engineer to the chairman was considered a-t the meeting of the committee on Thursday last. The engineer said: "I have examined the tenders received. I find that Messrs Newsom and Coulson have made errors in the areas of concrete and asphalte in pricing out their tender. This would add-£17,436 to their tender, making it third in the order of tenders received. The lowest tender, that of the FerroConcrete Co., is therefore recommended for acceptance." '
