WAIOTAHI.

COJIPLETE-EETURZSr £ 18,495. The complete figures for the month's return from the -Waiotahi mine -came- to hand about half-past three o'clock yesterday ' afternoon. They show that 1174 tons ." of ore and of-picked-stone yielded 67420z 6dwt, value £ 18,495. The mine manager reports:—No". 6 levels Driving east on the main reef is being continued, and the drive is now \% a distance of 140 ft from the crosscut. The reef in the face is about 4ft in -width, but as yet has shown, no further improvement in value. There is, however, a small band going off more, into the foot wall, a few feet back from the face, which I purpose following later on. Driving west on.' the main reef is also in progress, and a' distance of 48ft has now been driven in this. direction. The reef in this face is about 4ft in width, and while a little favourable mineral continues to be seen in the hangingwall portion, no further improvement has yet taken place. The necessary timbers have now been ptit in for some SOft east and 33ft west on tlie line of the main reef. In the drive on the Cure reef the ground is .somewhat open, and Is giving off a little gas. In order to secure better ventilation, I am taking along a leading stope so as to form an air passage, and permit driving west being resumed. This face is r.ow in a distance of 54ft. No. 5 level: Driving east is still in progress, and the drive is 1 now in a distance of 80ft from the No. 1 winze. The reef in the face is still of large dimensions, and during the past week good colours of grol-d have been seen in the centre of the reef. The first stope above, the level has now boen carried 36ftr east of the- No. 1 winze, from which a large amount of fair crushing dirt is coming to hand. No. 4 level: The sinking of the winze below this level cast of the No. 1 winze has been somewhat retarded this week owing to a little gas. This has now been got Hid of by putting in air' pipes. The winze is now down 36ft, and th<> quartz broken is of a rubbly character and continues to show good -colours of gold. The stopes above this level' east of the end of the ground _ are .pro-ducing-fair crushing dirt, and colours of gold are occasionally seen. The drive towards the Mary Ann shaft, on tho puggy formation. is now in a -distance of 46ft. and another 4ft of driving will bring us immediately under the shaft. Some 20ft will th*n have to be risen to hole through to the bottom of the shaft. No. 3 level: Iv sinking the winze 'here to connect with the No. 4 stopes, the air became rather light and I have decided to rise through from tha stopes the remainder of the distance some 30ft. Mary Ann shaft: The renewing nf the timbers here below No. 3 lovel is still in progress, and has twn completed to a depth of 60ft. Th? shaft below this is filled with debris, which makes progress a little slower, but I hope to have this cleaned out and retimberea v>y the time the rise holes through to the bottom of the shaft from No. 4 level.'
