The Rev. T. G. Butler arrived by the Bonoma from Sydney, on Saturday. Dr. F. E. Dunkeley, left AAuckland by the Zealandia for Sydney to-day. Inspector EUisoiu of Clmstelmrch, Vent South on Sunday by the Earawa. Mr. C. E. Major, member for Hawera, •was a passenger by the Rarawa yesterday. The appointment of Mr P. S. Hay as engineer-in-chief for the colony is" sraretted. Sir Lionel and Lady Macmahon were passengers by the Waitangi on Saturday. Captain A. S. Ewan has resigned the position of harbourmaster at Westport.
Mr. A. W. Rutherford, member for Ilurunui. is at present on a visit to .Auckland. Bishop Stuart and the Rev. Harriett were passengers for Sydney by the Zealandia to-day. Rev. W. and Mrs .Tellie were among the passengers for Wellington by the Takapuna to-day. Mr John Currie, of Auckland, was a passenger for Xew Plymouth by the Takapuna this afternoon. Mr. W. A. Boucher. Government Pomologist, left Auckland for the South by the Rarawa on Sunday. Mr P. Sargood, partner in the firm of Fargood. Son and Ewen, arrived in Auckland V>y the Takapuna on Sunday. Hon. E. Vifkery, M.L.C., of New South 'Wales, and Mrs. Vickery. were passengers to San Francisco by the Sonoma on (Saturday. The Government native health officer (Dr. Pnmare), who is on an official visit in the Cook Islands, will return to Auckland parly next month. Mr. C. F. C. Miller is about to leave the office of Messrs. Heed and Bailey. of Auckland, and takes up bis duties Vith Mr, Vernon Reed, of Kawakawa. Mr Henry Herron, who has been in the service of the Xew Zealand Insurant Company for the past 24 years, has ■>>eon appointed assistant-manager of The Xew South Wales branch of the company. Mr. J. A. Gilruth. Government Veterinary Surgeon, visited Waihi on Saturday in connection with the abattoirs, which he inspected. He expressed the opinion that the building arrangeirents were most satisfactory. Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Wood, of TauTanga. and formerly of the Wairarapa. arrived in Auckland yesterday by the and leave to-morrow by the s.s. Victoria for Xapier to visit their friends in ihe Wairarapa and the South Island. Mass Jennie Pollock, an Auckland lady, who is now one of the leading members of the Bland Holt Dramatic -Company, arrived in Auckland yesterday by the Victoria on a visit, and i≤ staying with Mr. Bartley, manager of ,the Xewton branch of the Auckland Savings Bai-k. Sergt. McKinnon. who was one of those poisoned at the Paeroa racecourse on Monday last, i* still suffering from the effects of the poison (says our Waihi correspondent). Although he is able to walk a little, tap till yesterday he was confined entirely to his house. He has still attacks of pain and weakness, but in much milder form than formerly. * The locaJ secretary of the V.M.C.A. ■•has received intimation that Mr. D. A. Budire, who visited the colony recently in connection with the forward movement of the Association, will leave San . [Francisco for Auckland' on the 29th Starch, being due here on April 15. His ebject is to assist in the reorganisation of the N.Z. branches of the Association. Mr J. Mills, managing director of the ' Union Company, is to be entertained sit n luncheon at the Wellington Town Hall on April 1~2 by the Institute of Marine Kngineers. The chair will be taken by the Premier, who is a life honorary associate of the institute. Mr Louis. Cohen, of Wanganui, will "he a candidate for the vacancy on the Senate of the University of Xew Zealand which ■will shortly occur owing to the retirement of the Rev. J. C. Andrew. Mr Cohen was formerly a member of the Senate.
On the 14th. inst. a very successful eodal was held in the Hall, at Katikati, to welcome the new Presbyterian Home {Missionary, Mr. A. H. Xonie. Suitable addresses were given by Revs. J. L. Pat"tullo, GiHies, and Katteni, and Messrs. Badger, Davies, Killen, and Henry. The local Glee Club, under the condnctorship of itr. C. T. Dunne, contributed several 'items.
