(By Telegraph.—Press i.soclatlou.) WORK OX WELLINGTON WHARVES. WELLINGTON, Thursday. At to-day's meeting of the Harbour Board a letter was read from the Carriers' Union of Employers complaining of delays caused by shortage of labour on the wharves. The secretary's reply was that quicker despatch could not be ariven with the present accommodation. A member of the Board said matters in this respect had reached a very acute stage, and he was couvinced that the management of the Board refused to supply sufficient labour to cope with the work. That was false economy, and resulted in very grievous trouble, car- I riers being sometimes unable to get croods for four, five, or even seven days. He moved: "That a committee be set up to inquire into the matter."' The secretary said the whole secret of the matter was that the sheds were too • small for the work. The accommodation at (Queen's Wharf was utterly insufficient. The motion to set up a committee of inquiry was agreed to. SCENERY PRESERVATION. CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. In response to the Scenery Preservation Commission's report, Mr Sedtlon has telegraphed to Christchureh that j it has been decided to secure an area , of .->0 acres of the best part of Ken- j ned.v's Bush, on the Port Hills, provided j that a third part of tbe cost is borne j locally.
