Pierre GuiUard, a young man, was charged at Hamilton to-day with assaulting his step-mother, a woman fifty-eight years of age, at Churchill, on December 22. They quarrelled over the use of a buggy, and accused, it is alleged, struck his step-mother twice on the face and neck, and subsequently rushed her,' knocking her down and Injuring her hip. The old lady appeared in court with a crutch. Dr. Going stated that her injury would probably be permanent. The defence was a denial of striking the woman, but accused admitted shoving her unintentionally. Accused was fined by the justices £1 and £2 7/ costs.
