CANADA AND UNDESIRABLES.
OTTAWA, February 7. The citizens of Toronto are sending a petition' to the Go.vernor-Ge.neral, urging that legislation should be passed to ensure care in the selection of immigrants. The petitioners say that preference should be given to adults capable of .maintaining themselves. Attention is drawn to the ianger of undesirables from the poor of London and elsewhere, through the Salvation Army or Lord Kothschild ? s scheme, being introduced. Russian and Polish refugees are described as objectionable and unsuitable.
