THAMES COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Thames Connty Council met last night, wheu Mr U. VV. Bagnali presided. It was decided to contribute £IJO towards the cost of drainage at Thames this year. Residents at. Kauerang-a Vailey petitioned tfle Council to opvn up the Government surveyed road at the back of the hotel, as the old track iv front Is at present dangerous for traffic.

Willi regard to an application for authority to expend £100 of the £200 voted for the Coroinandel-Tbaines road. Mr C. \V Hursthouse, Chief Engineer for Department of Roads, wrote stating that the whole of the £200 voted had already been authorised to the Coromandel County Council. As no application in regard to this road wasmacle by the Thames Council, the Hon. Minister did not see his way to transfer any of the authority. There may, however, be moneys available for expenditure on this road uader the roads on goldfields vote, application lor which should be made to the Mines Department.

A letter was also received from the Chief Engineer, asking whether the Council were prepared to espend the vote of £300 for the Hikutaia .Bridge. The Chairman said taat the snm voted was not sufficient to complete the work, a.nd.the question aroee as to how the fnnds were to be obtained for its completion if gone on with. There was also divided opinion between the Thames and Ohinemnri County Councils as to the adoption of either the No. 3 or No. 4 road, and as the Thajnes Council had adopted the No. 4 road, and the Ohinemnri Council thp No. 3 road, the latter body were not deposed to give any assistance. Tt was resolved to write to the Departmput asking that tbe amount be increased. Mr Deebie charactpriscd the whole work as a waste of public monpy.

A (lisctmsion took place regarding the proposed ferry service across the Thames River. Opinion was divided regarding the Kopu site recommended by the entrinepr. and the one at Matatoke mad advocated Tiy Mr Wilson. The ensrinper was. however, instructed to report on the latter site. As only £750 was voted for this work by the Government, the question is mainly one of finance.
