(Received 10.13 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. The southern portion of this State is being visited by the severest weather experienced for many years. The air is as bitter as winter. A violent hurricane is b) progress on the coast. The ketch Foam capsized off the enhance to the Gippsland Lakes. The crew il safe. A fisherman has- been drowned it Port Fairy. The gale is now abating. Several of the suburbs of Melbourne ere knee-deep in water.
