The vessel reported ln the Gulf this morning pioved to be the brig Edward with a cargo of produce fiom L.yttelton.' >>he arrived shortly after 3 o'clock this afternoon.

The R.AI.s. Sierra left Sydney for Auckland yesterday nfternoon, and should arrive here on Friday morulng vest. The Sierra leaves for the Islands and San Francisco at 8 p.m. on Friday.

The American naval authorities have placed orders for two armoured cruisers to be called the North Carolina and the Montana, each of 23,000 horse-power, and a uew battleship called the New Hampshire of 10,500 horse-power. All three vessels are to be fitted with Babcock and Wilcox water-tube boilers.

The s.s. Indralema saUed for Napier, Wellington, and other Southern ports tnis afternoon to complete her discharge.
