BOWLING.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) LONDON, August 5. At the Muswell Hill Gree non Wednesday evening a rink of Australian and New Zealand bowlers, consisting of Messrs Alexander, Fortescue, Holden and Gee, met a strong side under Mr IJ. Gillespie Carruthers, champion of the English B.A. The colonials went off with the lead, and were soon at nine points to three. The home side then began to pull up, mainly through getting a five in at one end. The colonials continued to fall off, principally through playing narrow, and Muswell Hill ran out winners by eight points—22 to 14. For the losers, Fortescue led with many close woods, but Gee, as second, and Holden. as third, scarcely played up to their New Zealand reputations. Alexander, as skip, directed with considerable skill, and was seldom at fault in his play. On the new Vauxhall Park rink the same Antipodean team met with a narrow defeat after a most exciting game with a team skipped by Councillor Sims. The visitors opened well, but. falling off later, their opponents steadily pulled up until the score was 18 all, and after a great finish the councillor's side won by a single shot only—2l to 20. Mr Alexander has not yet, T hear, succeeded in getting together a representative team of English bowlers to undertake an Australasian tour, but has hopes of being able to do so within the next few weeks.
