For the colony's railways a vote of £1,210,.-)0U is asked, of which £860,500 is for construction and £350,000 for additions to open lines. There was on these at March 31 a liability of £210.057, *o almost exactly a million pound.-* is for work undertaken this financial year. Last year £077,074 was spent. A vote of £53.000 is set down for the utilisation of water power—£lo.ooo in each of Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, and £3000 general. For public buildings £216..700 13 asked, of which £33.888 will go towards the liability ul the beginning of the year. Last year £116,678 was spenr. The vote for lighthouses, harbour works, and defence .is £S2OO, of which £4000 is for harbour defences.- Last year £5991 was spent on similar works. For tourist and health resorts £26,000 is provided, as against £17,108 spent last year, while £5800 is asked to assist immigration. For roads and bridges £513.969 is asked, of which £98,326 is to wipe off the liability at the beginning of the year. Last year £226,462 was spent. £30,000 is asked for the development of goldfi.?lds, of which £6258 was spent last year. ' ' ' It is proposed to spend £12,500 on purchase of native lands, on which £6281 was spent last year. For telegraph extension £70,000 is asked for this year's works, as against £79,298 spent last year. For lands improvement no less than £61,000 is set down, only £2248 having b?en spent on thia last year. In the Railways Department £26,000 is set down for interlocking gear, £130,----000 for rolling stock.. £5000 for workshop machinery. A vote" of £10,000 is taken for the duplication of the Auckland-Penrose line, a similar vote being asked for the Dunedin-Mosgiel duplication. A grant of £9368 is taken for additions to open lines in the Auckland district. £_1100 is set apart for a new wharf at Motuihi. A sum of £200 is voted for the maintenance of the Queen of Beauty pumping plant. The district accountant of the Roads and Bridges Department at Auckland 13 granted an increase of £10 per annum. A grant of £333 is given to the Te Aroha Borough Council towards the drainage of the borough. Included in the public buildings .vote is £5000 for altering, and rebuilding Parliament House. £2000 for offices and laboratory in Wellington for the Geolo gical Department. A grant of £20,000 is provided for j grants to Education Boards for addition?
