For the colony's railways a vote of £1,210,.-)0U is asked, of which £860,500 is for construction and £350,000 for additions to open lines. There was on these at March 31 a liability of £210.057, *o almost exactly a million pound.-* is for work undertaken this financial year. Last year £077,074 was spent. A vote of £53.000 is set down for the utilisation of water power—£lo.ooo in each of Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, and £3000 general. For public buildings £216..700 13 asked, of which £33.888 will go towards the liability ul the beginning of the year. Last year £116,678 was spenr. The vote for lighthouses, harbour works, and defence .is £S2OO, of which £4000 is for harbour defences.- Last year £5991 was spent on similar works. UNIVERSITIES AND TRAINING COLLEGES. A vote of £5000 is taken as the first | instalment of the building grant for the ! Auckland University College. The Victoria College (Wellington) receives £ 19,000 as the balance of its building grant and £6000 for furnishing, levelling, etc. The Otago University receives £2000, a grant for the physiological lec-ture-room connected with the medical school. The Auckland Education Board is voted £ 1000 as the first instalment of £5000 for its training college, and a- similar vote is being granted the Wellington Board. AGRICULTURAL. * A sum of £200 is voted for fitting up old Admiralty House, Auckland, for the purposes of the Agricultural Department, £250 for a fruit fumigating shed at Auckland, £05 for land at Te Puia, and £ 100 for the Waerenga-road. HOSPITALS. The following grants appear for hospitals in the Auckland district: Whangarei (additions and drainage). £100; Northern Wairoa, £350; Rawene, £500; Coromandel. £50; Waihi, £600; Cambridge Sanatorium, additional buildings and road, £COO. A sum of £3000 is set apart as a subsidy to the Auckland HosI pital Board for the infectious diseases hospital. HARBOUR WORKS. Among the harbour votes are the following items: Horeke wharf, £250; Waipu (improvement of river), £365; Waitemata (deep creek wharf), £50;' Onehunga (removing obstruction and dredging near wharf), £750; Huia wharf (subsidy £1 for £1), £250; Orua Bay wharf, £50; Graham Beach wharf, £50; Mercury Bay wharf, £250; Opotiki wharf (subsidy £1 for £1).
