CITY SCHOOLS' COMMITTEE. The ordinary meeting of the City SchoolsCommittee was held In the Wellesley-street School yesterday evening. Those present were: Messrs P. Crowe (chairman), H F Kimber a. H. The committee decided to make a„ inspection of toe eitv schools on Wednesday week. y NEWTON BAND OF HOPE. A concert under the auspices, of the Newton Public l.ai,d of Hope wks held last night in the Foresters' Hall. Newton, a large audience attendiuj-. A portion of the proceeds went towards the relief of a destitute Kingsland family, and the remainder to the general benevolent fund of the Methodist City Mission. The programme. which was varied and extr.mely enjoyable was contributed by Mrs J. w. Stewart! Miss Alice Rlmmer. Messrs W. Aspinall Harold T. King. A. McElwaln, and Wesley Young Men's Institute, who gave vocal items; Misses Winnie Carter. K. Muldoon, Millie Peak, and A. and M. Tickers, Instrumentalists; and Mrs F. Burnett and the Rev. James Wilson, elocutionists. Mr F. A. F. Burnett capably acfeci as stapre manager, and the Misses Muldoon and Pulman acted as accompanists. Upon the motion of the Rev. Jas. Wilson. Mr Burnrtt and the performers were heartily thanked for their services.
