Nurse Sheldon-Smith left for the South by the Zealandia to-day. The Rev. W. Gittos went South by the Takapuna. The Rev. Mr. Harris was a passenger by the same steamer. Mr. A. Cerutty, Auckland wharf manager- for the Huddart-Parker Co., has returned from his visit to Australia with Mrs. Cerutty. The Gisborne Harbour Board appointed Mr. H. E. Johnston storcman and Mr. J. Jameson as assistant There were 99 applicants. Mr. and Mrs, J. Endean, of the Waitemata Hotel, returned in the .Sonoma to Auckland yesterday from their brief visit to San Francisco. Mr. Lane, manager of the Wellington branch of the Citizens' Life Associationarrived in Auckland this morning, and is staying at the Central HoteL Mr Boyd Bennie. mine manager of the Mokau coal mine, who has been appointed Assistant Inspector of Mines, will commence his duties at Waihi next week. Mr. L. J. Bagnall, chairman of the Conciliation Board, has returned to Auckland from the Islands and Australia, whither he went in search of health, very much benefited by the excursion. Capt. William Cameron has resigned the command of the scow Warrior in order to take over another vessel in the South. He left Auckland to-day with that object. Dr. and Mrs. Chill, of Melbourne, who have been visiting Auckland, and stayed at the Grand Hotel, went to Rotorua this morning, and go overland via Wanganui to Wellington. Surgeon-Major-General Turnbull, of Edinburgh, who stayed a day or two at the Star Hotel, went to Rotorua this morning, and will either return here in a few days or go South by the Wanganui. Dr. Watson, one of the medical officers of the United Friendly Societies, went to Sydney last night by the Victoria. Mrs. Brockwav. wife of Dr. Brockway, of the same staff, arrived in Auckland yesterday by the Sonoma from America. Mr Atkins, the architect of the Waikato Hospi.al, and Mr A. G. Bignell (Mayor of Wanganui), of the firm of Messrs. Russell and Bignell, the contractors for the new hospital building, have just paid a visit to the work. The old boys of King's College have presented to Mr C. T. Major, the headmaster, an illuminated address by way of celebrating bis return to the College as headmaster. It is signed by all the "old boys" present in Auckland, and is to be signed by as many more as can be obtained within a reasonable time. Mr. H. P. Barry, superintendent of the Waihi G.M. Co., returned by the Sonoma from England via America yesterday. He is staying at the Grand Hotel, and goes back to Waihi to-morrow. JLe is accompanied by Mrs. Barry, and after he had attended the annual meeting of the company in London, they spent a pleasant holiday around England. Mr. A. Mistowski arrived yesterday by the Sonoma, and ia staying ai the Northern Club. He conducts the musical examinations of the Trinity College og Music- till Friday next, after which he ■visits the Waikaio and Thames, proceeding thence to New Plymouth. Mr. Mistowski, who is Mus. Bac. of Oxford, visited this colony some years ago. Mr. Biss, who has heen district railway engineer at Auckland for the past eight years, has been transferred to Wanganui, for which place he leaves to-mor-row. To-night he will be entertained by the members of his staff, who will make certain presentations to him as mementoes of the Auckland office. Mr. D. T. Mcintosh, who exchanges places with him, arrives in Auckland on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. George Pearee. who have resided in the Kimihia and Huntly districts for about 20 years, were waited on by about 30 of their friends at their residence on Friday evening, when a presentation was made to them. As a contractor in the early days of the Kimihia mine, and latterly us a farmer. Mr. Pearee is quite an old identity. He intends leaving the district immediately for Cambridge, where he has purchased a farm. The Rev. Hugh Kelly, M.A., formerly minister of Knox Church Parnell, has just concluded a month's supply in the. pulpit of Knox Church. Dunedin, on behalf of the Rev. Mr. Hewitson (who is visiting England on furlough). Various Australian "clergymen are supplying at the church during the minister's absence. The Rev. Mr. Kelly, who returned to Melbourne yesrerday from Dunedin, recently had a jubilee in his new charge, St. Andrew"- 1 , Carlton (Melbourne), and in a 'uc/lvlci published by the managers they r;ejgnise very cordially the great value Mr.. Kelly hi'.s tieen to the church and the that has attended his effort* already. Mr. Kelly lias become very popular with Ii- congregation. Mr. ?. P. Waddington, the practical examiner for the Associated Board of the R.A.M. and R.C.M., who arrives here on September 24, is a graduate of the R.C.M.. and was elected Mendelssohn scholar in I£9l. To him was allotted the t;i-k of completing the .-core of the late Goring Thomas' opera. "The Golden Web." llis compositions consist of a ballad. "John Gilpin." for chorus and orchestra, produced at the R.C'.M. concert on November 4. 1894, a concerto for piano and orchestra, a trio f or piano and strings (Queen's Hall. December 11, 1594). a -onata for piano and 'cello, and numerous others. He is also the conductor of an amateur operatic society in London. Dr. Trc*idder. M.iLC.S.. L.R.C.P., who arrived here by the Ventura from Sydney on Friday, has taken over the Onehunga practice of Dr. J. C. Pabst, who is coming into the city to practise as a specialist.
