BOARD OF EDUCATION.

The ordinary meeting of the Board of Fdrontion was held In the Board-room today, those present being Messrs Luke (chairman), Greenslade, Stailworthy, McKenzie, and Harris.

Chairman's Report.—ln the course of the chairman's report it .was stated that the fo'lowing resignations had been received: — Miss M. Mellhone, teacher. Paparlmu school; Miss F. M. Smith, assistant. Nel-son-street; Miss Eleanor Ball, mistress, Panmure school. A vote of condolence was passed to the relatives of the late Mr Robert Noble Roper. R.A.. temporary Fiibstitnte master of the Hamilton West District High School. A similar message of sympathy was directed to be sent to the relatives of the late Miss Kirkham. of Te Awacuotu.

Finance.—The Finance Committee rocommemlod payment of th<" following accounts: —Administration account. £RSO 13/3: manrnl and technical acconnt. £274 7/5. building fund account. £1142 11/4; Girls' High School account. £T>o. That the attention of the school committee should be called to the decreased attendance of pupils receiving secondary education at the Opotiki District High School. Your committee, having conferred with Mr J. W. Harrison, surveyor, recommend —(1) That the plan of subdivision of the Girls' High School endowment property for leasing purposes be •suhmlttrd to the Commissioner of Crown Lands: (2) that the Hobson Connty Council be consulted as to the probable cost of forming the roads thereon as laid off in the plan, and of felling the bush two chains wide on the line of "road.

Teachers' Sol-ctlon.—The Teachers' Selection Committee recommended that the following appointmenis should be authorised "by the Board:—Mr W. H. Wo'ldell to bp tpaeher cff N-nnguni school: Miss J. A. Waddlnpham to he seventh assistant Newton East-school: Miss A. C. Johnston to be mistress of Rnmarnma school; Miss M. A. T. G. Dean to be rrlstress of Flat Rush school: Miss B. M. Plrritt. pupil teacher, from Aratapn to Ka-pler-street school; Miss Jeannle L. Marrinrr. pupil teacher to Aratapn District Hirh School. That the applications of the undernamed candidates be submitted to the Auckland City Schools Committee for the selec.lon of a" second assistant master for the Nelson-street school: —?Tessrs T. R. Jones. H. J. Wooller. and E. W. B. Caddy.

Pupil Teacher Regulations.—A letter from the Edn ation Department stated that the amended pupil teacher regulations hnd b«en approved by the Minister and printed. Mr Greenslade took strong exception to the e'ause which makes It necessary foi second year pupil teachers to pass In either Latin or French.
