Peess Association.—Copyright.] There are indications from a number of sources that Russia is desirous of arranging peace, but -Japan, according to the Japanese Ambassador at Washington, refuses to quote her terms until perfectly satisfied ct her opponent's bona fides. Through the by-way? of diplomacy Russia is endeavouring to ascertain the extent of ./apanV demands, but so far her efforts have not been successful. Japan continues to have the best of a series of small engagements in Manchuria, dislodging the Russians from one of their position?, and repulsing three attack?. The first mcive towards the isolation and subsequent siege of Vladivostok has been made.
