RE THE DONATION OF £500, J. 8.1.

(To tbe Edftor.) Sir, —May I ask for a little space on the above" matter? Whilst with pleasure I read of this donation, which, with the Governine It allowance, brings it up to £1100, 1 would like to make gestron on behalf of the blind in the hope that it will bring better results for our more unfortunate brothers and sisters. At the present time, what becomes of this £ 1100? Why lent out on mortgage or property bought with it, and on one gets a farthing bentfit. Why? Because the J. 8.1, committee sink it into that wonderful thing called the building fund. Now, what I wouid like to see is this: All those kind friends to the blind who wish to help them will in future, either during their lives or at their death, provide that such funds or securities shall be put into a fund, and such fund shall be called "The Annuity Fund for the Blind of N.Z." The income derived therefrom should be used solely to provide annuities for the old and needy bliud of this colony. Then, with the Government pension, a person will feel provided for in their old ajre. The I annuity should be given by a public vote of all members, i.e., those who subscribe yearly their 10/ or 20/. and not by the vote of the trustees of the J. 8.1. —I am, etc, BURTON-BENNET.
