The Boards of Examiners under" the Mining Act and the Coalmines Act met in Wellington this week for the purpose of going through the papers of the candidates for proficiency. A meeting of shareholders In the Maoriland Gold Mining Syndicate was held in Pilling's Hotel last evening, when the mine manager, Mr Christie, explained that work had been done in the mine since the beginning of the year. For some time past he had been engaged rising from the low level to the winzo, which had been put down 43ft from No. 2 level, and last week, after rising some 90ft, he succeeded in holing through Into this winze. Since then he. had started, an intermediate level about midway between No. 2 and the low level, and was now driving on the reef there, which holds an average width of about 3ft. The manager brought samples ,of stone with him, showing a good quality of quartz, and giving a nice ring of gold in the dish. WARDEN'S COURT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PAEROA, this day.
