AMUSEMENTS.
HIS MAJESTY' 9 THEATRE, j At His Majesty's Theatre last evening, the second performance of "The Broken Melody," by the renowned aetor-rirujsi-cian, Auguste Tan Biene, and a selected company, was witnessed by a large and appreciative audience. The prtncplal was accorded a splendid reception for nis beautifully played 'cello solos, which included "Carmen Fantasie," "Blungarlan Air with Variations," "Slumber Song," 'The Broken Melody," and "Home, Sweet Home." At the close of each act the curtain had to be raised several times m response to the loud and continuous rounds of applause. The piece will De staged again this evening and the remainder of the week. & 'THE OPERA HOUSE The programme snbmttted by Fuller's Entertainers at the Opera House is an exceptionally good one. Miss Jeannle Johnstone (soprano) and Mr Leslie Forrest, who is described as a double-voiced vocalist, are decidedly valuable acquisitions to the company. Last evening Miss Johnstone, who has a sweet yet powerful voice of good range, gave a delightful rendering at "Madoline," and was deservedly recalled, while Mr Forrest was also very successful, especially in his imitations of the various styles of singing. The contributions of the other members of the company were well rendered and received. A similar programme will be presented for the rest of the week. MB HARRY RICKABDS' NEW COMPANY. * To open at His Majesty's Theatre next Monday evening, April 3rd, Mr Riekards Is sending a troupe of vaudeville artists, capable of providing a most attractive bill. Mr George Puller Gohlen, who will do the "star turn," is an American society entertainer, who recently finished a 12 months' engagement at the Palace, London. -He is due by the R.M.s. Sierra to arrive next Monday, the opening day. The' other members of the company come from Sydney. The O'Meers sisters are described as young, graceful, and intrepid marvels on an aerial invisible wire, performing incredible feats of agility and cleverness. Les Frasettls are performers of a high order on the harp, violin, and xylophone. M. Emil Lazern, an old favourite, is a clever prestldlgltateur. "Historicua," a little mite eight years old, with a marvellous memory for dates, battles, or events of any kind, answers immediately any question asked by the audience. Other members of the company are Mr Fred Millis, the Australian ventriloquist; the Salambos, who are decribed as "weird electrlfiers;" Ollivette, a thought-reader and lightning calculator; Mdlle. Yasiho (vocalist); and Mr Tom Dawson (comedian). The box plan is now open at Wlldman and Arey's. FEDERAL HALL. A change of programme will be instituted at the Federal Hall to-night, and in addition there will be a cake-walk competition, open to allcomers, and the Indian basket trick for boys. To-morrow evening an* accordion competition takes place. The season closes on Saturday night, so that there will be four more opportunities only of witnessing this entertainment. WIRT_7S ALLIED SHOWS. This popular and extensive organisation are billed to open in this city on Saturday, April Ist. In their company are Included several stars of the arena. The menagerie is also a study in zoology, possessing among other wonders the smallest elephant ever seen. The Wild West portiou is headed by Captain McCloud, late of Buffalo BUTs Show, who claims to be the best lassothrower and rifle shot of the world. He introduces "Wild Friday," a cowboy who shies knives about as if -they were tennis balls, but without danger to the young lady who bravery stands while his weapons forcn a steel frame encircling her shapely form. Tom Colquitt, who is styled the modern "Sprlngheel Jack," has been specially engaged from England to show us what he can do in trick jumping. His feats are many, both astonishing and amusing, besides which he challenges any man In .any style of athletic jumping. "Chefalo" will. "leap the chasm." a bicycle act that makes one's very nerves tingle; he defies the laws of gravity. So much has been said and written of his performance that it seems superfluous to speak more of it in these columns. In the circus proper Herr Emil Payer will juggle with wild beasts; at his command one tigress rides a tricycle, and others walk rolling globes, etc. Mons. Ragoul will ask his pets to do some wonderful tricks. The acting of Mr P. Wlrth's black horse "Bobs" is described as marvellous and beautiful. The clowns are funny, the aerialists intrepid, and the equestrians graceful. The location is Mechanics' Bay. A firt matinee. will take place on Wednesday, April sth.
