THIS DAY. ——— * (Before Mr. H. S. Wardell, S.M.) Drunkenness.—Five first ofl'enders Were charged, three being convicted and discharged, and the remainder fined 5/ each and costs. David F. Ferguson was foed 10/ and costs upon being convicted lor the second time wiihin six months. Austrian in Trouble.—Stipan Raain, W Austrian, pleaded guilty to assaulting Eliza Dracevac. He was also charged ■with wilfully breaking a window at the house. Draeevac stated that foam smashed the window, .and Lhe police- were sent for. While Constable Taylor was taking Raain's name the accused rushed at witness and struck him in the face. Raain objected to tiie usual Court interpreter being employed, and in consequence a second interpreter was enHe was fined 10/ and costs, or 14 days, for the assault, and owing to the duplication of the interpreters the «wts totalled 37/0. In connection with the broken window Raain was fined 5/ sad 5/ damages, or seven days' imprisonment. Maintenance.—Charles A. Nursey was ordered to pay 10/ per week towards the Maintenance of his child in a home. He tod been on remand in custody for a week owing to the absence of stipendiaries from Auckland, and the magistrate remarked that this was a serious thing. A Charge Withdrawn.—Ernest Towers ■Jfd been arrested by the detective police, charged with forging and uttering a upon the Bank of New Zealand, lyhen he appeared before the magistrate detective Henderson asked that the ™wge should be withdrawn, as the prohad failed to identify Towers as ™c offender. The accused wa's accordingV discharged.
