ST. PATRICK'S DAY CELEBRATIONS.
The Hibernian sports were proceeding in the Domain whien we went to press yesterday afternoon. A feature of the sports was a wrestling match between ti. H. Johnston, the Scotch champion touring the colony with A. A. Cameron, ana the successful Aackiander, Constable Arthur Skinner. The style was cateh-as-catch-can, and the best of three falls decided the winner. Mr D. Leahy was judge. The exhibition was a good one, and the whole assemblage gathered rouna the ring to watch the result. Johnston seemed a fall after the first ten minutes. Skinner then ass'exted himself, and In intervals of about ten minutes eactt ne secured two fails, greatly to the delight of the spectators, who cheered him loudly. He was carried off the ground shoul-der-high. Johnston weighed 15st 121b aad Skinner list 9ib." Another interesting exhibition was the hammer throwing in the Caledonian style, with the cane-handieu hammer, which was given by Messrs ACameron, Scotch athlete, and Constable Arthur Skinner, of Auckland. Cameron threw the hammer 108 ft and Skinners throw measured tJSft. With run and spin Skinner subsequently threw the hammer a considerable distance further than Cameron, who, it should be stated, does not claim to be proficient in this sport, xne Sacred Heart College boys gave an exhibition on the paraiiel bars, which was greatly appreciated Appended, are the additional results: — Throwing the Cricket Ball.—Callinmi 1, Whitley 2. Tug-of-War.—Of three pulls between a team representing the licensed victuallers and sailors from 11.M.5. Challenger, two were won by the former, who won tne competition. Mr T. B. O'Connor captained the winners, and Petty-officer Ueid the bluejackets. , , . Champion Wrestling Match (ciitch-as-catch-cau style). —A. Skinner (Auckland) beat G. H. Johnston, the SeoU-h champion, securing two falls to his opponent's one. Open Wrestling Competitiuu (.oatch-as-catch-can style).—Tiaki Nanaia 1. ihe only other competitor was; C. U. Fraser, who was thrown on the two occasions. IRISH NATIONAL CONCERT. An Irish national concert was held In the Choral Hali in the evening, and was largely attended. Bishop Lenihan and a number of the clergy were among those present. The programme, which received hearty approval, was as follows: —Opening chorus. '"Let Erin Remember," school children; song, "Irish Emigrant," Miss Cooper; sons, "Believe Mc of all those Endearing Young Charms," Miss M. Donovan; violin solo, "Rhapsody," Master Gerald Ralph; song, "Irish Folk Song," Miss Mabel Lyons; recitation, "Shiel's Speech on Irish Valour," Mr R. A. Keenan; song, "The Last Rose of Summer," Miss A. Lorrigan; soug. "Kathleen Mavourneen," Miss M. Knight; song, "Silent O'Moyle," Mr Rupert Mantel; chorus. "Hail, Glorious St. Patrick,'" school children: song, Wearing of the Green," Mr P. B. Darby; song, "The Harp that Once." Miss Cooper; violin solo, "Irish Airs," Miss Maggie Lyons; song, "The Meeting of the Waters," Miss M. Knight; recitation, "Robert Emmet's Speech from the Dock," Mr 11. Herbert; song, "Steer my Barque to Erin's Isle." Miss Maud Donovan; song, "The Minstrel Boy," Mr Kupert Mantel. The accompaniments were played by Mr H. E. Light, F.U.0., London.
