A fatal boating accident happere.j here yesterday afternoon, by which three people lost their lives. A party of six. viz.. Mr. Culley. senr.. Miss Culley. Mrs. George Marshall, E. Doyle, F. Good hue and G-. Goodhue, all of Kawakawa. went fishing in a small decked boat. The weather came on bad from the eastward. They hoisted th- sail, and then pulled up the anchor to return asnore. As the boat swung off the sail jibed and the boat capsized. Everyone clung to the boat for somo time, but Mr. Culley and his daughter became exhausted and sank. Shortly after Mrs. Marshall went down. The others managed to right the boat, and got into her. When they turned the boat over Mrs. Marshall's dead body was inside. About two and a half hours after the boat capsized it was seen from Russell drifting in past the point. Several boate went out at once and rescued the remaining three people. They were in a very weak state, but have now recovered. (By Telegraph. —Own Correspondent.) RUSSELL, this day. A boat containing six people capsized in the Bay of Islands, near Russell, yesterday afternoon, three of thrj party being drowned. An open sailing boat containing Mr John Culley (of. the Kawakawa coal mine) and his daughter. Mrs Bertha Marshall, wife of Mr Geo. Marshall, proprietor of the Junction Hotel. Kirikiri. Messrs Gilbert and Frederick Goodhue and Enoch Doe], of Taumarere, was sailing near Tapeka Point, when it was struck by a sudden squall and capsized. A party of natives who weip sailing in the vicinity went to the rescue, but before they could reach the spot three party—Mrs Marshall and Mr and Mi-s Culley—were drow/ied. The remaining three were rescued after being three hours in the vratf.T, and were conveyed to Russell in the s.a. Ida. Mrs Marshall's body Tvaa recovered durin-g the afternoon.
