BOWLING.

The pennant flag of the Auckland Bowling Association, and the various certificates won at the tournament, will be presented to the holders on the Auckland green on February 11. -when a pleasant little function should be witnessed. I am given to understand that if time will permit, the Auckland Bowling Association will promote a singles championship tournament at Easter. The idea is being well received by local bowlers. The tournament on Saturday and Monday, the matches in which are being completed to-day, passed off very successfully., those responsible for the management working very hard to make things run with such smoothness. The hon. secretary, Mr. Osmond, and Messrs. Carlaw and Parry, who assisted him in getting out the 200 cards necessary for the conT petition, are to be complimented upon having done so without a mistake, thus greatly facilitating the competitions. The gentlemen in charge of the greens, Messrs. Stewart (Devonport), George Court (Remuera). J. H. Harrison (Eocky Nook), T. Charter (Mount Eden), and Butts and Beecroft (Ponscnby), gave a great deaJ of valuable help. The "sadden death 1, principle in the pairs and singles competitions at the tournament was abandoned this year, but there has been a decided change of opinion in favour of reverting to th= old method. The pairs and singks are really consolation events, the pennant games bring the chief item oe the programme, so that the reversion to the "sudden death , ' method of running , the competition should J give less dissatisfaction than the sec- ! tiona! arrangement, which meant a great |deal of secretarial work, and was a. cumjber3oiae process to boot. The pennant J games, I have good reason for saying, I wiH not again be played in two sections. llt was felt by bowlers that the nine j clubs conH easily have found time to play each other., and that as they "were divided I into sections the competition was hardrr as effective as it might otherwise have ! been. In the A section the clubs had only three matches each, much to the ', disappointment of the players. However. : this will be remedied nest year. The first draw of the Eemttera. pairs i match for Mr. Murdoch's silver cup must be play«! by February IS. The draw is posted in the paviHan, and the committee wiH be unable to extend the time, so members should be careful to play their matches in time. T3» entry is quite a resold, sixty players having sent in their manes. The doarar of the trophy will *!-. lo* tfce wrtam. _,•.•_}." "
