To this end I should Sladly co-operute, and. having been for many years (In the palmy days of the Thames) a Borough Councillor and a member of the Harbour Board, I know something of public business, and this knowledge might assist mc to be of some use, if elected, as a member of the Auckland Harbour Board. I hav«i likewise visited quite a number of the principal ports of Britain and America and have seen the great facilities for shipping business which are reqdred at a firstclass port such as we may hope to make of Auckland, and I now feel convinced that we must use oar best efforts to improve ana increase the shipping conveniences, and the facilities for the expeditions handling of Koods, which are necessary in every up-to-date harbour. Further. I should not overlook the fact that the coastal trade of Auckland is already great, anil most continue to jrrow. and that the waller vessels have at prpsent very uecommodatlon, which I should endeavour to have increased. I should also eo-ot>pr~.rtn -with the Mauukau-Waitemata Canal Promotion Company in getting a Bill thronrh Parliament authorising the Harbour r.i>ard or a private company to build the canal, so that Auckland might be sure of the West Coast trade of her own province at least.
