HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The- ordinary meeting Of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held :it 2.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. lr J?seiit: Messrs John McLeod (chairman), \\. B. Bloonineld, A. Bruce, S. C. Brown, John Bollard, M.H.R., J- G. Garland. ThP dispenser reported 25 new cases during the month and 311 prescriptions. He added that although the weather had been coid. wet, and unseasonable, it had not produced much illness. The Hospital Board wrote stating they saw no objection to the examination of 'accident patients In the hospital by a doctor appointed by insurance companies under the- Workers" Compensation Act provided such examination took place in the presence of one of the resident medical staff. The letter was received, the chairman remarking that was practically the custom adopted by the Auckland Board. The chairman said Mrs Moore-Jones had forwarded a cheque for £30 5/3, which had been raised by the pupils attending her college as a donation for the children's hospital, lie moved that this Board desires to record its best thanks to the pupils attending Mrs Moore-Jones' college, and that the money be expended for the purpose for which it was given. The chairman said, with the subsidy there would be enough to put up another cot, and also to get a piano. This was agreed to, and on the motion of Mr Garland it was decided to direct the House Committeo to expend the gift as indicated by the chairman. The Northern Roller Milling Company wrote asking that local made flour and oatmeal should be used in the Hospital. It was decided to reply that the matter would receive attention when next tenders were called. The Auckland Temperance Crusaders wrote asking that the Board should not receive gifts of liquors for patients. The letter was received. The Agricultural and Pastoral Association wrote thanking the Board for the refund of £8 odd prize money won at the recent show by the CostJey Home exhibits. The Charitable Aid Committee reported that eight persons had been admitted to the Costley Home One patient was 84 years of age. Dr. Pabst wrote accepting the position of hon. visiting physician to the Hospital until next March. The honorary staff wrote reporting that it could make no definite recommendation regarding a fixed hour for admission en patients; that patients be discharged at 10 a.m.: that a book be provided which patients, when leaving, may sign their mimes, and. if they choose, make remnrks regarding the management of the institution: that fortnightly inspections be made of the bnildings by the chairman of the hon. medical staff and the Hospital Commitee, and that :i report book be provided; that hours of attendance for the hon. medical stuff be from 9 a.m. to 11.30: that the attention of the Hoard be c-alled to the number of phthisical cases In the Hospital, and the necessity for special provision for such ease*?. The letter was referred to the Hospital Committee to report. The inmates of the Hospital at preseut arc 11- men and .">-t women, and of the Costley Home 157 men and 33 women. Mr Rlooinfield, for the purpose of information for new ' members, asked the Costley Home Committee (V) what steps had been taken to give effect to the recommendations of the Royal Commission vjtli respect to the. Costley Homo, also the present position of the Home? (2) that the Fnance Committee report as to the position of the endowments of the Hospital.
