i (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) ' WAIHI. Monday. j An exciting rj-perienre" is reported from I Waihi Besieh. A party of campers left | Mount Stewart Puini for a prolonged I sail. A moderate breeze was blowing ; when the party started out, but il suddenly increased till it blew a gale, and caused a big sea. Tlie wind wa.-, blowing directly or: to the opposite shore (Matakana Island!, and despite their best efforts the party could no-, make headway against it. Failing to gs-t back to Mount i Stewart they endeavoured to reach Kauri Point, a few miles lower down, but they failed here also. In desperation, with the boat nearly waterlogged, they ran with the wind on to Matakuna Island, and. without food, were forced to spend the whole day on the island. Several attempts were made to put to sea during the day without <ucce.-s. A tina! effort in the evening, however, proved successful, aud the party arrived home in an exhausted condition. Arrangements are being made by the Waihi Cricket Association to play a match against Auckland the dny before the match Australia v. Auckland, on February 10. The usual monthly meeting of the Waihi Hospital Trustees was held the other evening. Mr. L. Noakes' offer to act as honorary dentist to the institution was accepted with thanks. It was decided to take into consideration the question of making certain additions to the hospital buildings, and a sub-committee was appointed to report to the next meeting. The House Committee appointed for the month were Messrs. Wood, Brown. Henderson arid the chairman. Account.* amounting to £155 0/2 were passed for payment. The matron's report, was as follows: Patients in the hospital on December 1. 16; admitted during the month. 18; in the hospital on January 1. 1903, 16.
