THE GOLDFIELDS.

ON -CHANGE. A good deal of business was transacted on the Exchange to-day in mining shares. As far as Thames stocks were concerned, however the sales were mostly the result of concessions made by sellers. The inevitable reaction toot place with regard to Waiotahi shares. On Saturday these shares sold at £16 155/, but this morning holders were willing to accept £10 10/, and by noon sales were reported at £15. with further sellers at the same rate. As reports from visitors to the mine are st'll very encouraging. it is fair to assume that (he fall is merely the natural outcome of the sharp rise laat weok. Xew Moanataiari shans soi.. freely at ."/, and later on at 2/10, and Kuranui-Caledonians changed hands at 2/ and 1/11. Saxons sold in fairsized parcels at 11 Ad and 1/. and Eclipse at 1/2 and 1/3. May Queen Extended shares ako changed hands at 9Jd and 10d, and Waihi Beach shares at 7d and 71d. Talisman Consolidated shares firmed a little this morning, selling and being still wanted at 11/9. Waihi stocks continued firm. Junctions being wanted at 70/, Extendeds at 7/3. and Waihi shares at £6 10/, but no sales resulted. Standard lines showed no change today. WAIHI SOUTH. The Diamond Drilling Company commences shortly to put down a bore in the Waihi South mine to a depth of ; 1000 ft. WAIHI DISCOVERY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent) WAIHI, this day. Recently a find was reported in the vicinity of Wain Beach, but no particulars were procurable. I ani now informel that Mr Clem Comes, the weJlknown prospector, has come across what appears to be the outcrop of a large reef on hilly country adjoining the property of the Waihi Beach United G.M. Company, and according to the. estimated course of the lode it should junction with another lode found in the same locality. I understand that the ground has been secured by an Auckland syndicate. Quarts is now being broken out of the lode and will be forwaided to Auckland. The claim will be known as the Waihi Discovery. WAIHI EAST. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent) WAIHI, this day. Tliis claim is being floated into a company of 75.000 shares, and probably ,wlf of the shares will be taken up here. The j owners have applied for the adjoining | gi cvnC N.Z. CROWN MIXES. (From Our Special Correspondent.) LONDON", December 2. The directors' report to be presented j at the eighth annual general meeting of ■■ shareholders of the New Zealand Crown ! Mines Company, Ltd., states that the ■ whole cost of development work for the ; year, amounting to £2736 2/, has again I been met out of revenue. The sum of £4809 19/, being the usual 10 per cent., has been written off for depreciation of | machinery, plant and buildings. From the profit and loss account it will be seen that, after meeting all these charges, | there remains a net loss of £2421 15/11 for the yeaj, which, being deducted from the credit balance of £15,992 10/8 shown in larit year's report, leaves a surplus of £1.1,570 14/9, which it is proposed to carry forward. The unsatisfactory re- | suit of the year's operations has been due ■ to the disappointing nature of the developments in the lowest levels, and the general falling off in ore value-; throughout the mine, the amount rtaiised from j bullion having been only £52,&42. against j £50,462 for the previous year. The direr- | tors concur with the opinion expressed j by Mr C. K. Pinder. the inspecting en- | gineer. that the future, of the property | depends- mainly upon the re.sujts which I may be disclosed in the lowest levels, ' and the shareholders will be promptly informed of any important developments thnt may occur. The directors rec-ord I their appreciation of the services ren- i dtrecJ by Mr Daw during the year of exceptional ajixiety and difficulty, and of i the loyalty with which he has been sup- ! ported by the staff.
