(Bj Telegraph.—Own Correspondent) CKRISTCHTJBCH, this day. BIG AUSTRALIAN LAMB SHIPMENT?. The Christchureb Meat Company has received advice that lambs shipped from Australia for the season ending December 31. 1904, amounted to 543,467. A POOR FRUIT CROP. It is reported that the fruit crop of i Canterbury will be practically a failure ! this season on account of the bad wea- ) ther. The last and most serious damage was caused by a south-west gale that blew for several days at the beginning of last week. EMPLOYMENT PLENTIFUL. The state of the labour market in Christchurch is understood to be satisfactory. The inspector of factories ex- ! presses the opinion that employment can be found for all the bona fide unemployed. Twenty-five men sent to the Waipara-Cheviot railway construction works were from differeut parts. SUGGESTED EGG-LAYTNG COMPETITION. A movement is afooh in Christchurch to hold en egg-laying competition. It has been decided that tho best means of furthering the idea is to establish an utility poultry club for the whole colony, oae object, of such a club being vhe holding of a laying; competition.
