The Mayor lias given notice for the next meeting of the City Counei 1 to move that the Council has lost confidence in the city engineer, and should dispense with his services, paying him three months' salary. Trouble, has arisen over the waterworks contract eiti-li-otcs. the purchase of a water meter and stone crusher, and other matters over which the Mayor and engineer Ivave been in conflict. It is not expected that the motion will be carried. A seven-roomed House on Newdorfroad, Motueka, owned by Mrs Margaret Sixtus, was burned to the ground yesterday morning. There- was no insurance, and no further details are yot to hand. CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Peter Wallace Shaw, 15 years old, whilst bird-uesung at Amberley to-d,y, fell from a tree and broke his neck.
