The week closed with good business in mining stocks on the Exchange, the market finishing firm for most lines. South British Insurance shares changed hands at 140/, and D.S.C. shares sold at 12/2, with further buyers for the latter at the same rate. Buyers came in for Hikurangi Coal at 13/4, but no sellers quoted. Other standard lines showed little change on yesterday's position. In mining shares very good business was done this morning, Thames lines being still in most request. ' New Moanataiari shares had another advance from 3/6 to 3/8., due to stone showing da-bs of gold 'being reported from the winze sunk on the Cambria lode. The price, however, eased off to sellers at 3/5, with buyers at 3/2. Probably the other .buyers anticipated a haul of picked stone 'being reported. Kurajiiri-Galed'oarian shares started with sales at 1/10 this morning, but later transactions weTe at 1/8 and 1/7. Tttn assays posted to-day were apparently not equal to holders' expectations. Kuranui shares sold at 1/3, and were still wanted at ]/; and Old Alburn ias changed hands at 2/10 and 2/9. Waihj Extender! shares moved upwards tO-day, sales being , made at 7/3, 7/4, and 7/0, with buyers left unsatisfied at the latter price. Bunker's Hill shares sold a-t 1/9 and 1/S, and Pride of Waihia at 1/1. Victorias and Harbour Views were a sh-ade firmer in price. NEW MOANATAIARI. A telegram was posted on the Exchange this morning from the manager of the New Moanata-iari mine, which read as follows:—"Winze down 45ft. Saw strong da-bs of gold yesterday afternoon. Mineral land maintains its size." Shares in the company sold at the first call at 3/G. 3/7 and 3/9, but ended with sellers at 3/1, and buyers 3/. Alter the telegram was posted, sales were made at 3/3 to 3/8. but at the noon call there were sellers at 3/.">. with buyers offering 3/2.

KUHANITI-CALEDOISSAN. At the first call to-day ELuranui-Cale-donian shares sold at 1/9 and 1/10, but at noon free sales were at 1/8 and 1/7, several thousands /changing hands. After the call the following notice was posted on the Exchange: —

'"The winze on the Cambria reef below No. 3 level on the boundary of the Kuranui-Caledonian ground, has penetrated through to the footwall. The reef is 9ft tliiek. No gold was seen. Assay from samples token from the winze, have been made by Mr Sheriff Gaibraith. and the results are as follow: No. 1 sample, gold Sdwt 3grs, value per ton £1 12/ C; silver. 235dwt 17grs, value 5/ per ton; No. 2 sa«iple, traces only."
