GOLF.
L. ... Cuff, the ex-Kew Zealander, i cntly won the Northern Championship .1 Tasmania for the third time in'succession, at Launoeston. Cull's score for the 3d holes was 187. Cuff was more consistent than the others, but a correspondent says it was certainly not Ta_manian Championship winning form, and he was several times assisted by bad shots escaping punishment. An eminent actor, who bad his mornings to spare for a week at St. Andrew's, tells of his hrst golfing experience in the cradle of golf. He started nervously, with a mature and silent caddie at his heels, and thought that something should be said about his drive from the second tee. "Did you ever see a worse player on these links? - ' he asked in apology. The caddie said nothing, but proffered tbe riccessitrv tool. Again it happened. The caddie said nothing. "I say.'* said lhe actor, edging nervously, "did you ever see a worse player":" Tiie caddie glared silently for a few moments. "I heard what, ye said richt enough/ he replied. -'I'm just, theenking.'*
