A sudden demand set in this morning for shares in the Mahara Royal G.M.Co., ' Tapu. Last evening transactions took place as low as sd, but this morning free transactions occurred at lOd and lid, several thousands changing hands at those rates. The cause of the rise was the fact that good specimen stone has been' obtained from the winze. A few pounds were on view at the office of Mr. Sheath to-day, and it was estimated to be worth about an ounce to the pound. This winze is down 44ft below the lowest level, and was sunk on the first run of gold met with. In the winze the reef is sft wide, with well-defined walls and between; the .tone is of a rubbly nature in which are found these patches of specimen stone.
