|ably facilitating the transport of troops. Fighting is accordingly being resumed, and some sharp skirmishing lias already taken place. GENERAL ENGAGEMENT PROCEEDING. JAPS ATTACKING LIAN-TIN-SIN. (Received 10.3 a.n_.) LONDON, August 26. T_ie Japanese are now attacking Elan-tin-sin, the Russian fortified post to the south of Liao-yang. ! Tke whole of the Russian front from the Tai-tse River southwardis now engaged. The Tai-tse is a stream running into the Liao from tlie east, north of Liao-yang where Kuropatkin has concentrated his forces. About a month ago Kuroki _ right wing was reported to have crossed the Tai-tse, driving the Russians to the south bank. Following up this envelop ing movement, of which the object is to outflank the Russians and cut them on" from retreat to Mukden towards th? north, Kuroki is now attacking the whole front and left flank of the Russian lines. It may be assumed that he i_ in touch with the second army, which has advanced from Tashi-chiao towards Haicheng, and possibly with Oka's force* ! advancing from the south via Niuchwang.
