An eight-roomed dwelling-house at Okaihau, about 16 miles from Coromandel. was burned down last week The house belonged to Mr. Peter Harold, and his son William was the only one at home on the night of the fire. Before going to bed he placed a ti-tree stick in the grate, and it is thought that this caught fire and fell out, setting the place on fire. Mr. Harold was awakened at two a.m. through the barking of his dog, and the flarees then had such a hold of the house that he had to break a window to escape. Harold thinks that but for the barking of his dog he would have lost his life in the burning house. The building and furniture was completely destroyed. The house was -worth £2SO, and was insured for £200 in the Norwich Union office. Toilet ware! Have you seen Tonson Garlick Company's window? Largest show in the town; great variety; full sh.pieoe set from 11/6.—Ad. t ___
