A SUSPICIOUS FIRE.

MAN CHARGED WITH ARSON. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) STRATFORD, this day. An inquiry was held at Midhirst regarding the destruction by fire of a cottage owned by Wing Kee and occupied by Arthur McAuliffe. The latter, in evidence, stated that the fire was caused by a lamp being knocked off a table through witness kicking his dog. Expert evidence was given that the bowl of the lamp had not contained kerosene for a considerable time. The jury returned an open verdict, but McAuliffe was at once arrested and charged with arson. He was brought before Mr Turnbull, S-M., and remanded.
