CONCILIATION ACT.
PROPOSED AMENDMENTS.

WELLINGTON, this day.
Mr. Tregear, head of the Labour Department, has suggested a series of amendments to the Industrial and Conciliation Bill. These suggestions will be forwarded to Trades and Labour Councils and Employers' Associations, who be asked to give evidence. They include:
"That 14 days' notice of the sittings of the Court'shall be given by advertisement.
"That awards shall extend to and bind every trades union, industrial union, association, employer and worker, who, when an award is made or at any time whilst an award is in force, is in connected with or engaged in any industry to which the award applies, but awards may be limited to portions of districts as at present.
"That the Court may, when making an award, or at a subsequent date, may determine what shall constitute a breach of award and the amount of penalty.
"That in disputes relating to sea service, the Court may make a colonial
awa rd.
"That the President may before making an award refer any question of law that may arise to the Supreme Court in the form of a special case to be settled.
"That the Act of 1901 be amended to meet cases similar to the furniture trade dispute in Auckland, providing that the employers may not suspend men or workers susponrl employment pending the hearing of disputes.
