Moofe (2) aud Miss Moore, of j Christ church, arrived in Auckland yesterday, and are staying at the Central Hotel for a few days before proceeding to the Rotorua district. Mr and Mrs F. M. Leckie, after spend- : ing a pleasant holiday in Auckland, left j by the Rarawa yesterday for Wanganui and Wellington. They were staying at the Central Hotel while in town. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Muir. who have been staying at the Central Hotel, left for Eotorua yesterday, and after spend- J ing some time there, proceed overland i to Wellington Mrs. and the Misses Walker arrive from the Thames to-day. and are stay- j ing at the Central Hotel. They proceed i to Wellington to-morrow to catch the Athenic on their way to England. The Mayor of Dunedin (Mr T. Scott) I arrived in Auckland yesterday to attend the Arbitration Court. He is ac- ; companied by hi.* wife, and takes her to Rotorua after the tramway case concludes. Mr. Hood, assistat inspector of machinery in the Auckland district, has been promoted to the charge of the Kelson district, and will be succeeded by Mr. Grant, who is assisting in the Wellington district. The Et. Rev. Bishop ."erdou. of Dunedin, who was in Wellington for the farewell to Archbishop Redwood, has apparently decided to come up to Auckland, as he is a passenger hither by the Zealandia from Wellington. Mr F. L. Ayson. the Government fishing expert, who has been staying at the Star Hotel for the past few "days, went to Thames yesterday to meet the Thames fishermen and to inspect the fisheries in that locality. He returns to Auckland on Monday or thereabouts. and then inspects the .Janukau fisheries. Mr. and Mrs. T. Young and the Misses Young i 3), of Horsham (Vie), left Auckland yesterday for Wanganui. They were shown round the Hot Lakes by Messrs. Cook, who will now escort them up the Wanganui River from that town. They go back by the river and then overland to Wellington and the South. .tirs- John Paseoe and Miss L. Paseoe, wife and daughter of Mr. John Paseoe, general manager of the Lancaster West Goldmine at Krugersdorp (South Af-ri-a), who have been on a visit to their relatives in Auckland for the last six months, leave on their return home by the Ventura on May 2, to catch the Damascus at Sydney. Mr. Dob.ie and Misses Dick (2), of Sterlingshire (Scotland), and Messrs. Hume ana Lovett. of Auckland, who booked passages ti.jough Messrs. Cook, went to Tainnaranui to-day by the express to jciu 'bo Hatrick motor-canoe for the long trip down the Wanganui River. The canoe, by the way, has been superseded by a larger and more comfortable steam launch, which accommodates 40 people, but which is out of use on this trip on account of repairs. The late Gunner I'niaino, who had been in the Defence Force in Wellington for some lime, and at Fort Takapuna for about 12 months, was buried on the loth of this month at Woodhill with military honoui .. a party of the Permanent Force under Lieutenant Wall going to Woodhill to attend the funeral. Deceased was a son of Poata Uruamo, a well-known chief of the Ngatiwhatua tribe. He hud been ill for some time, and after staying at the Cambridge sanatorium, went home and died about .a week after his return.
