WAIHI BEACH UNITED. 1 (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. Messrs. Comes and party, contractors, are making considerable headway with the sinking of the shaft in the Waihi Beach United mines. Tlie shaft is to be i sunk 80 feet. It is now 56 feet down. Ihe country passed through is good firm sandstone, indicative of the iode matter being close at hand. WAIHI EXTENDED. .By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. With reference to a persistent rumour going round here recently to the effect that the Waihi Extended Company had received an oiler from the Grand Junction Company fur purchase or amalgamation of the two properties. I intervie wtd the manager of the Waihi Extended, who informs mc there is no truth in the assertion. Several outside offers have been received for that property, but none from the Grand JuneLion. As far as developments are concerned, there is nothing fresh to report. There is. however, a general indication all round of increased prosperity regarding mining in Waihi and around the district. ROYAL OAK. The manager telegraphed to-day: — "' 401b of picked stone. Messrs. McGregor and party of tributers crushed 13 tons of ore and 4Glb of picked stone for a return of 340z lOdwt of melted bullion, worth approximately £115." -.HXESALS LIMITED. The manager reports that the following works have been completed:—The 150 ft drainage tunnel has been completed, also the "jump up" to the alluvial ground, thus securing drainage for the main shaft, and when the wash dirt was struck, the manager states the show >vas cheering. The new main shaft has been sunk 48ft to the "jump up" and timbered. The water hoist is in hand, the iron work having been bought cheaply from a worked out mine. Tlie last work to be done is repairing the six-mile race and dam, for which a contract has been let at £ 150. It is expected all will be ready to start work early in June. Mr McNair. manager, estimates that 48 acres of alluvial ground recently added to the large area already held by the company will alone take 25 years to work out. SHABEMABKET. AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE.
