A Long last—No fewer than eight drunkards were dealt with, only two being first-offenders- These were convicted and discharged, while fines of 5/ and costs were imposed upon John Morris, John Edward South, Thomas Kennedy and Annie Dunn. John Gregg had ifcen fined on Saturday for drunkenness, but this was no restraint, for he was soon locked up again intoxicated. He was fined 10/ and costs.

Remanded.—William C. Costar was charged with the theft of £4 in notes from Clement Ganley at Paumai on February 22. Upon the application of Detective Henderson the accused was remanded to Aratapu to be tried on Friday, bail in two £20 sureties being allowed. Saved by a Character. — Patrick Graves pleaded guilty to committing an indecent act in Karangahape-road. He was given a good character by the police, and had no previous convictions. But for this he would have been sent to prison; owing to his good character he was cautioned and discharged. The Publican's Light.—For neglecting the regulation which provides that hotel-keepers shall light a lamp outside their premises at night, John Charles Dunn, of the Rising Sun Hotel, Karanga-hape-road, was fined ss. and costs. Wandering Horse.—Alexander George Lee was fined ss. and costs as the owner of a horse found wandering in Kara-ngahape-road. Mr. Lee explained that the horse had somehow got loose from a paddock, and started to -walk to his residence in Mount Eden, being impounded before it got there. William John Spence, another owner of a wandering horse, was also fined ss. and costs. Window Smashing.—Albert Beswick,, who failed to appear, was prosecuted by his wife, Emily Beswick, for breaking a pane of glass at her house in Cookstreet, Beswick being ordered to pay 3s 6d. damages and costs.
