THE MINISTER FOR LANDS.

The Hon. T. Y. Duncan, Minister for Lands, on Saturday afternoon visited the suggested sites for the steriliser to be erected in Auckland for the treatment of imported bones, but it is hardly likely that the matter will be decided until his return to Wellington. This morning Mr. Duncan w*s waited on by a large deputation from the Auckland Timber Millers' Association with reference to the new regulations for the disposal of kauri timber. The Minister informed the deputation that no material alteration would be made to the new regulations, and that the auction system would not be reverted to. Mr. J. H. Witheford, M.IH.R.,' had a long discussion with the Minister on the matter of the settlement of Auckland lands, Mr. Duncan promising to facilitate this as much as possible. Mr. E. G. B. Moss, M.H.R., for Ohinemuri, also waited on Mr. Duncan asking him to visit Paeroa in reference to the freehold of the township, but the Minister stated that time would not permith the trip, as he wishes to visit country not previously travelled over "by him. This afternoon Mr. Duncan visited Lake St. John with Mr. F. Lawry, M.H.R., regarding the proposal to drain the lake. To-morrow the Minister is to j leave on a visit of inspection to the rej cently-acquired Biekerstaff estate, in the Kaipara district, probably proceeding thence to Whangarei.
