BOARD OF EDUCATION.

The Board of Education met this morn Ing, when there were present Messrs li. Hobbs (chairman), V. Dye. S. Luke, J. Stallworthy, A. R. Harris, A. E. Greensliade and C. J. Parr.

Chairman's Report.—The chairman reported that resignations had been received from Mr D. Jenkins (Pakaru and Whangape), Miss N. Richards (Taiuaki West), Mlsa A Peuzholz (Newton West).

Letter of Condolence.—The chairman anrcouneetl with regret the death of Mrs Miller, wife of Mr Miller, teacher at Uobsonvdlle schoo., and it was decided to send a letter of condolence to Mr Miller.

The committee recommended that school committees be consulted in regard to proposed appointments as follows: Mayllehl (head master), Messrs M. V. Daly G. Wilson. F. D. Woods ami J. B. Ramsay. Huntly (mistress), Miss E. Mllluigton. Newton East (assist ant), Misses E. C_leus, M. A. Stewart. M. E. ""onsford and E. M. Roid. Tamaki West (mistress), Miss J. E. B. Stevenson.—The .report was adopted.

New Syllabus.—The secretary said that some teachers were Inquiring when the new syllabus was to come into operation. The syllabus was to be brought in on July Ist next.

Reports on Teachers—A letter was read from the New Zealand Educational Institute recommending that inspectors' reports on individual schools be not published. Mr Harris said that he knew of cases In which chairmen of committees had taken round reports adverse to teachers to residents of the district .and he thought this should not be done. Mr Greenslade thought that the matter was one for a committee, and not for the Board, und Mr l'arr said the Board had no power in the matter. It was decided to receive the letter.

Avondale South.—A deputation from Avondale. headed by Mr J. Bollard. M.H.R.. attended, and asked the Board to establish an infant school at Avondale South, a suitable building having been obtained. The request was referred to the inspector of the district for a report
