FEARED YACHTING ACCIDENT

BOAT AND CREW MISSING • j The fact that a sunken yacht was ' passed off Rangitoto Island on Friday by the steamer puts a very serious complexion upon the report that the 26 feet yacht Irene, which left Auckland for Coromaudel on Thursday at midnight*-, with a crew of three, has not reached port, and has not since been seen. On the small vessel, when she left Auckland, were Mr. Jamese Slator. son of Mi*. Slator, architect, Queen-street, Mr. Stewart, of the Windsor Castle Hotel, Parnell, and Mi*. Roy, residing in St. George's Bay Road, Parnell. They intended to return on Sunday, and great anxiety was felt for their safety when the day passed without their arrival. The Auckland police were informed. Inspector Cullen immediately wired to Coromandel to ascertain if the yacht had been seen there, and received a reply from Constable Law that he could find no trace of the yacht having been there. The constable at Waiheke has now been instructed to search the coast to ascertain if the raising yacht lias drifted ashore, as it is feared that the sunken vessel, which was seen drifting in that direction on Friday morning, might be the one in which Mr. Slator and his friends were sailing. The breeze was very fresh when the party sailed, and there is unfortunately too much probability of the Irene having met with an accident.
