CIVIL SERVANTS' SMOKE CONCERT, There was a large attendance of Civs servants at the Strand Vnfc last night, i under Lie presidency of Mr G. Included iC a short list of .toasts was that of "Tlr. Service.' - proposed' by Mr W. Tole. wt_. spoke with pride Of- his connection witthe Lands aud'Survey Department, whic> had rendered invaluable service In pioneci I work. Mr F. IR Baume also spoke to the | toast, advocating the establishment of a ! Civil Service club,,to promote good fellowship among the .various branches of the service. Major Pirie. Messrs ]<"_. I.uk_, aud Mclutosh were the accompaaiists. BA_NJO AND GTITAS. ORCHESTRA. At the annual meeting of members of the Imperial Mandolin. Banjo and Guitar Orchestra Mr A. Morton was elected j chairman. The report showed the orchestra to be lv a-very sound financial condition. The proceeds of the concerts given during the year enabled the orchestra to obtain a very, fine repertoire of music to wor.t at during the next year. The concerts were- liberally patronised by (he public, who showed their appreciation of the orchestra's performances by their renewed attendances. The following were elected as officers for the ensuing year:—Secretary aud treasurer, Mr A. Harrison: committee. Mr A. Morton, Mr A. Woods Mr Hudson, Mr Whitley. Miss Millie Strong. Miss Ruth Searle, Miss Gertrude Rcndal; conductor. Mr,A. A. Partridge. A hearty vote ..f thanks was then passed to Mr A. A. Partridge for the able manner iv which ho has discharged the duties of conductor aud instructor.
