THE BLACK FAMILY.
The audience which attended the opening performance of the Black Family 'of musical entertainers in His Majesty's Theatre last night was appreciative. Mr Black, senior, with his wife, son, and two daughters, have cultivated their musical tastes with such success that they have no difficulty in sustaining a particularly enjoyable concert programme, with several clever and original novelties thrown in. Miss Nellie Black was a particular favourite, for her contralto voice is pure and full, and her Judgment excellent Miss Black'iJ talent has also run In the direction of the violin, several selections and a novelty performance demonstrating her remarkably good execution. With Mr Black, sen., Miss Nellie Black provided two charming comic musical sketches, both performers singing and acting well, very much better than in tUe average musical sketch. The family combined nicely in orchestral selections, and four in a mandoline quartette. Miss JSlsie Black's separate contributions included a ilute solo, a pretty song, and a gracefully danced tarantella, while Master Bert Black Introduced several new ana appropriate movements luto a sailors' hornpipe. He also gave a cornet solo and musical novelty "turn." The varied programme was made more attractive by Mr Blacks comic songs and crisp encore recitations. When the audience was not admiring some flue musical effort, it was laughing at one of the other Items, and these enjoyable alternations are so well managed with the Black Family that the entertainment is sure to be popular.
