The Telegraph Department forwards the following memo.:—"We are advised via Extension that Victorian, Tasmanian, South and West Australian traffic subject to delay owing to interruption of lines. This includes international traffic via Eastern Extension."
The official opening of the Veterans' Home has been fixed by the Board oi Governors for December 10, because the plaster on the walls would not be dry enough for the place to be tenanted before them. Colonel Sommerville assumes dnty here on October 20, and from October 21st to December 10th the place will be closed to the public. The laundry and outbuildings are to be built as soon as possible. The Board classified 14 further applications for.admission. The following three applicants were selected: —Daniel Theobold, of Mangawai, Auckland, 22 years' service in the 70th Regiment, Indian Mutiny, New Zealand long service and good conduct medals. George Foden, Auckland, 12 years' service in the 70th Regiment, Indian Mutiny and New Zealand medals. John Heron, Marton, 12 years' service in the 86th and 51st Regiments, Indian Mutiny and New Zealand medals.
The old question of the disposal of Admiralty House was revived at the meeting of the Harbour Board . this afternoon by a letter from the Undersecretary for Public Works, in which it was stated that the Department cotuld not see its way to advise the Government to consent to the course suggested by the Board. No reason was given for this course in the letter, and consequently the Works and Tariff Committee were instructed to consider the matter and report to ih& Board.
