(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
NAPIER, this day,
A special meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held to protest against the action of the Government in appotinting a butter grader at Gisborne, where suppliers from only four factories are available, whilst a similar application from Napier, which has fifteen factories to draw on, was refused. Mr Fraser, M.H.R.. said if the Poverty Bay member had been one of the rank and file of the House a grader would have been stationed at Napier instead of Gisborne. The balance-sheet of the Hawke's Bay Woollen Company shows a loss of £1412, due principally to inadequate machinery. Orders have been sent Home for new carding machinery, which will greatly increase the company's output.
